Design shouldn’t get in the way of effective communication. I like to think simply, both in the design work I do and the way I go about projects. That means faster results and lower budgets.
When it comes to logo design, I always begin work in black and white. Bold colours can be a band-aid for poor design. If the logo doesn’t “work” in plain black and white, then the design won’t work for you.
The final logo will most likely incorporate colours, but it as added to supplement the design rather than cover it over.
Any design brings a lot of sub-conscious communication to the table. One glance at a magazine ad can tell you a lot about the product it is advertising and whether it is for you. If you’re not making smart choices with your design, then it might be saying things you don’t want.
